At our home23.1.2006. Hello everybody, every cactus friends! I saved some time...then, I can write something about our hobby, in these frozen times...In our city in about -20 centigrade degree ! Oh, it is dangerous to go outdoor, that is the reason to stay in my "cactus cave ". Sometimes, it should have be a bedroom...I think, cactus workroom is better now ! I have been grafting still in this period, no problem. I use my favourite stock Selenicereus spec., it is very good not only for small seedling, but also later for mature plants. I have grafted plants on this one more than 12-13 years ago and I need not to grafted on other normal stocks. Selenicereus grandiflorus is other type(no one on these pics), usefull only for seedlings. Other stock, you can see, is Trichocereus chilensis, similar application like Trichocerus pasacana( but this one is little bit colder stock). I am interesting about rare plants ( = vzacny kytky in czech), difficult and new taxons, that is the reason to show you some our plants, which we have been propageting (or we try to....). In other pics you can see some seedlings from october and december sowing "under synthetic light"...
Turbinicarpus nieblae on Selenicereus spec., sowed in august 2005, grafted in september
Turbinicarpus nieblae, other brothers...and sisters
Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. septentrionalis, the last finding from Jarda Snicer, description in the journal KAKTUSY 2005
Uebelmannia pectinifera var.pseudopectinifera, Trinta Réis, the most south expansion of taxon Uebelmannia, stock also Selenicereus spec.
sowing plate
Astrophytum (Digitostigma) caput-medusae, 5 weeks old. I was grafted this one yesterday...Oh, my hands were shaking...I bought 6 seeds from Mr. Koehres. The price of one corn is 20 Eur!!! Seeds germination is just 75%... Next month I will try to sow other 2 seeds, then, I will sleep beter...These nights and dreams are bad...
Uebelmannia pectinifera var. (ssp.) horrida ( 1 piece right). We brought 28 ripe corns, the seeds germination is about 40-50%... We want to save sedlings, because it is very rare species in Europe. In Brazil is not an endangered species because of big distance from civilization. We went from the site of var. hoorida by foot! See different shape of stem and long spines!
Other two brothers, bellow. Right prevent Obregonia denegrii...
Uebelmannia pectinifera var. (ssp.) crebrispina HU 642 (= form of var. flavispina) was flowering last week, it was "sabbath" for me!!!
We will "see" next month( may be..). I have to fight with my real laziness... Rudy & Nada
