BUŠEK + UEBELMANN = FAMOUS CACTUS PERSONALITIES......and a small journey to visit them...23.5.2007.I left my city Brno direction Prague, where lives my cactus friend and also " Uebelmannia specialist". He was in Minas Gérais, around Uebelmannia sites, last year with his wife Štěpánka. We cooperate together and we had been preparing "trip" to Germany, Switzerland and Italy about two months. It was very important to compare our knowledges about genus Uebelmannia whis this two colectors.. The first (and younger ! ), Pepa Bušek, lives near Munich, bellow the Alps...We spent two days with him. Bušek, famous Czech "cactus hounter and colector" ( he lives in Germany about 40 years). His colection is great (!!), I will show some pics from there in a future. The fresh, cool and healty climate is very good for cultivation all cactuses, which Mr. Bušek cultivates. Every specialists of genus Sclerocactus and Pediocactus knows his fields numbers JB (JB2 = Navajoa "menzelli", JB 22 = Sclerocactus spinosior etc...). We visited near Munich some nice colections and saw lecture from Mr. Van Heek in Munich cactus club. The lecture was about Mins Gerais and Bahia Brasilian states. It was very good and funny, other than lectures in my country. Mr. Werner Uebelmann, 86 years old famous tradesman and cactus colector, still cultivats for fun ( and presents for his friends :) ). He payed Mr. Leoplodo Horst ( he was from from city Estrela, south Brasil ) like a " cactus hounter". Every new taxon was payed, that was the reason about many new species in all sites of Brasil ! Mr. Uebelmann was in Brasil six times. He found the new variety of Uebelmannia pectinifera var. depressa ( syn. montana) during his last trip. Wa wanted to see theese plants in glasshouse and another fabulous plants. Another interest was to see cactus meeting in north Italy (Trento). The meeting takes two days ( not like in Czech republic), it was interesting but much smaller than in Chrudim or Dvur Kralove (Czech republic) Here are pics from yourney, some new taxons, rare plants which you had never seen ...
The glasshouse is some meters from Mr. Bušek,s house looks like small, but there are incredible nice, good healty and rare plants ! The climate overthere is very hot, but plants are without burning. I will publish pics from this colection next time. You will see for example MELOCACTUS PEREZASSOI, very rare plant from Cuba, Sclerocactus, Pediocactus etc....

Mr. Uebelmann wakes up very early and "work" like normally in past. I think, that is the reason, why in age of 86 years he looks like so good and fit !!!

Cactus meeting in Trento : A. Plappa´s Astrobergia !!! He has other similar genus-hybrids: Ferobergia,Thelobergia, Ariobergia ( !!! ). 8-10cm tall plants = 150 Eu, too much to buy, but nice plants !!!
Vašek Toman has Uebelmannia pectinifera and my present from Mr.Bušek = Hertrichocereus beneckii ( syn. Cereus farinosus )in his hand. end of fairy tale !!!
